Organization: BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres
Position: Executive Director
The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC) is the umbrella association for the 25 Friendship Centres throughout the Province of British Columbia. The Friendship Centre Movement began in the 1950s. The movement represents a national network, united by the vision of a vibrant society that supports Indigenous peoples and a brighter future in Canada.
Friendship Centres are community hubs. They offer culturally safe programs and services and provide a welcoming space for all members of the community to share knowledge and connect with others.
The Executive Director (ED) provides leadership and effective management of the organization and its mandate to serve and support member Friendship Centres, and work to build the capacity and sustainability of the Friendship Centres in BC. The ED has overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of BCAAFC. Under the direction of the Board of Directors, and in accordance with the organization’s by-laws, policies, procedures and mandate, the ED manages, guides, advises and supports all other staff members in the execution of their job tasks.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a visionary, progressive leader to make a provincial impact across a range of services offered through BC Friendship Centres, from supportive housing, culture, youth and family programming, and beyond. With a engaged Board and a growing Centres, the ED will work to broaden impact through advocacy while expanding the range of services to optimize member value. The ED should bring a commitment to working with funders (government, municipal, and private) to expand the funding opportunities and increasing the profile of the work being done by all BC Friendship Centres.
