Pathways Executive Search Wants to Change the Face of Leadership in Corporate Canada and Beyond

The Indigenous-owned recruitment firm delivers Indigenous-focused professional services in support of reconciliation and inclusion.

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA – September 19, 2023 – Pathways Executive Search (Pathways), a national recruitment firm offering Indigenous-focused professional services, is on a mission to make Indigenous inclusion and reconciliation a reality—ensuring recruitment and career journeys are less challenging and more equitable along the way.

Fueled by the national climate toward reconciliation and reparation of the past harms experienced by Indigenous peoples in this country, the need and demand for Indigenous talent has increased dramatically.

As trusted advisors and champions on the path to reconciliation, Pathways works with corporate clients, Indigenous communities and organizations, and individuals, helping remove the barriers and challenges they face, whether looking for talent or employment.

“With increasing representation in executive and board appointments, Indigenous peoples are becoming influential leaders at the most senior levels of companies and governments,” says Laurie Sterritt, Pathways founder and Managing Partner. “At the same time, Indigenous communities have become active participants in the economy and Indigenous organizations are growing, developing, and maturing, often with their own values-driven business entities. This means they have a need for senior executives too.”

Pathways has a rich history working to attract and recruit Indigenous talent for Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients; team members have completed more than 300 successful placements in the last few years alone. In addition to the services and support offered to clients, Pathways also makes culturally appropriate candidate-care a priority, travelling alongside those looking for growth, change, and opportunities to share their skills and gifts in positions and organizations where they will thrive.

“While Pathways itself is a new organization, our team has worked together for many years, striving for diversity, equity, and inclusion in workplaces and boardrooms, in Canada, the United States, and around the world,” says Mike Eagar, Partner. “I started my recruitment career when Aboriginal executive search was a relatively new concept and, 10 years on, there’s been a real shift in how organizations and individuals think about what leadership looks like. What’s also shifted is the interest in business models like ours, where we forge closer, more supportive connections with both clients and candidates.”

Pathways puts Indigenous values and principles of inclusion first, for all racialized and equity-deserving professionals.

“Respect and reciprocity are at the heart of what we do,” continues Sterritt. “I was inspired early in my career to believe that there were paths we could take to bring companies, governments, and communities together to create lasting economic and social change. We still have a long way to go on this journey but every day, more people and organizations are saying yes to change.”

Pathways previously operated as Leaders International’s Indigenous Search Practice which was formed after a merger with Higgins Executive Search in 2017.
